Two Manchester United players have final chance to impress Erik ten Hag

Second chances in football seem to be rare nowadays, you only have to look at the managerial situation at Chelsea to recognise this as fact.

Players, as well as coaches, are under increasing pressure to provide the performances needed to keep their positions. A slip-up can lead to them either being demoted to the substitute's bench or out of a job entirely.

Some members of the first team at Manchester United have seen how ruthless football can be so far this season. Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Fred have all barely been given a sniff since the demolition at Brentford.

Fortunately for the latter two, they have both been handed an opportunity to show Erik ten Hag what they are capable of. On Monday, MEN Sport broke the news that five of United's squad would have the one-year extension clause on their contracts activated.

Shaw and Fred along with David de Gea, Diogo Dalot and Marcus Rashford are all set to see their stay at Old Trafford extended. Despite not being in the United team at present, you can see why the Englishman and Brazilian are to be beneficiaries of a new deal.

With regards to United's left-back, it has been clear that the Reds have not seen the best of him. For whatever reason, Shaw has been unable to replicate the performances he manages at international level under Gareth Southgate.

His foot injury issue has kept him out of some of United's best matches this season with his replacement, Tyrell Malacia, filling in admirably. As we sit here before the Europa League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol, it is hard to argue a place for Shaw in the side.
