Turner's Cross to reopen on 1 May

Turner's Cross will reopen on 1 May after recent works to repair the pitch at the Cork venue.

The Munster Football Association announced the closure of the ground on 8 April, stating that extensive areas of the pitch had been "severely damaged" following the SSE Airtricity Men's First Division meeting between Cork City and Cobh Ramblers.

The association has now confirmed that the venue will reopen on 1 May for the Munster Youth Cup final between Carrigaline United and College Corinthians.

Cork City issued a statement on Wednesday morning confirming that their women's side will return to the ground on Saturday, 4 May, with the men's team returning on Bank Holiday Monday, 6 May.

"The club is pleased to have been advised that Turner's Cross Stadium will reopen on Wednesday 1 May, following recent works to the pitch," said the statement.

"As a result, this means that our first game back at Turner’s Cross will be our Women’s Premier Division game against Treaty United, which will be the first time a Women’s Premier Division fixture has been broadcast live from Turner’s Cross.

"We are hoping for a big crowd for the occasion and we are calling on all City fans to get behind Danny Murphy and his team on the day.

"Our first Men’s First Team game back at Turner’s Cross will follow just a couple of days later, as we welcome Wexford FC to Leeside on Bank Holiday Monday at 5pm."

Following the closure of Turner's Cross, both Cork City teams had their home games reversed, with Tim Clancy's men's side visiting Longford Town last Saturday, before a trip to Finn Harps this coming Friday.

The women's team visited DLR Waves on 13 April, and will now host the reverse fixture at Turner's Cross on 28 September.
