Tumbling records at the Red Bull Ring: How F1's books look after Austrian GP

The Austrian Grand Prix was another event that altered Formula 1's record books. Max Verstappen took the win - almost expectedly - and helped elevate Red Bull's strong position as the 2023 season nears its half-way mark.

We look at some of the amended F1 records in the wake of the race around the Red Bull Ring.

• In 1988, McLaren set the record for most consecutive wins: 11. Red Bull secured its 10th win in succession in Austria and could equal McLaren's 35-year-old record next time out in Britain.

• Since taking the lead in the Miami Grand Prix (Round 5) from Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, Verstappen has led every lap of the Grands Prix that followed. When Ferrari's Charles Leclerc inherited the lead from Verstappen, it ended a 248-lap streak of laps led. Verstappen is now third on the all-time list of most consecutive laps led behind Alberto Ascari (305 laps) and Ayrton Senna (264 laps).

• It is the seventh time in Verstappen's career that he secured a hat-trick (win, pole, fastest lap) in a race. It puts him on equal footing with Senna and Ascari.

• The Red Bull Ring and Barcelona's Catalunya circuit were where Verstappen held seven podium finishes. With the win, the Red Bull Ring is now the circuit where Verstappen appeared on the podium most often: 8.

• The win was Verstappen's 42nd, surpassing Senna, with whom he was tied on 41. The Dutchman now has the fifth-highest number of F1 victories.

• The win in Austria means that half of Verstappen's F1 victories came in the last 14 months, a run of success that started at Imola in 2022. The 21 victories he secured in the last 14 months are as many as Kimi Raikkonen scored in 19 seasons!
