Tsitsipas upset by Struff at Halle Open
HALLE, Germany : Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered an upset loss to Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16 at the Halle Open on Thursday.
The 34-year-old German downed sixth seed and world number 11 Tsitsipas 6-4 6-4, setting up a quarter-final against world number one Jannik Sinner.
"It's very special. The crowd was supporting me like hell and it was just an amazing feeling, amazing atmosphere," said Struff, who did not face a break point throughout the match.
Italian Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Hungarian Fabian Marozsan 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3.
"It's the first time I've faced him. He's already beaten incredible players, so I knew I had to play really, really good," Sinner said.
Fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini, who usually excels on grass, lost 3-6 6-4 6-3 to American Marcos Giron.
