Truck race in Hungary goes viral for absolutely wild opening lap & it's pure chaos

An opening lap in the European Truck Racing championship has gone viral on social media for the frankly bonkers number of incidents to unfold over the first few corners.

It’s a series of motorsport that obviously doesn’t get the same amount of coverage as the likes of Formula 1 or MotoGP but, despite that, the racing is no less competitive and, looking at the opening exchanges at the Hungaroring in Hungary, it can be even more dramatic.

At the start of an 11-lap race, the drivers waste no time in banging wheels, with several running wide out of the first corner and onto the grass, which makes for the rare sight of a truck fishtailing, before more chaos ensues into turns two and three.

The leading pack’s battle sees another truck head straight on at turn two, whilst the battle into turn three has another nearly rolling onto its side, which we can only imagine is a pretty frightening affair for the driver from that height.

After this opening sequence, it’s perhaps no surprise that the red flags flew to stop the race, with several trucks littering the circuit.

The Hungaroring was hosting round two of the European Truck championship, with four races held over the course of last weekend.

It was an overall successful event for Norbert Kiss, too, who won three of the four races on home turf.

He now leads the Drivers’ standings by 18 points after the weekend, ahead of Sascha Lenz on 83 points and Jochen Hahn on 78 points.

Round three of the championship takes place in Slovakia, over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July whilst there are five more rounds after that.
