Trophy and ceilidh night reflects on year of successes for Perth City Swim Club

Perth City Swim Club has celebrated another hugely successful year in the water at its annual end-of-year trophy and ceilidh night at the Salutation Hotel.

Swimmers, volunteers and family members came together to look back on a long list of achievements and highlights throughout the 2023 season.

Club president Eve Thomson said: “The club ceilidh is one of the highlights of the year and is a great way to start 2024 with a bang.

“It gives everyone the chance to look back over the past 12 months and to recognise those who have contributed so much to making our club what it is.

“The club continues to go from strength to strength, with swimmers representing Perth with distinction at regional, national and international level during the past year.

“Our coaching team and swimmers work so hard throughout the year that it is really important we take a little time out to enjoy our successes.”

Eve added: “It was lovely to see some of our former swimmers, who have moved away to further education, coming back to join us. That shows the bond our swimmers have with the club and that is as important as any medals won in the water.

“The friendships formed here last a lifetime and I have to thank the committee, our amazing volunteers and parents for their continued support. It is a real team effort, in and out of the pool.

“Everyone enjoys letting their hair down for the night, but they know head coach Ann Dickson will already be planning how to make the next 12 months our most successful yet.”

The Jim Hitchen Memorial Award for the Volunteer of the Year was given to Stirling University student John Mackay, who combines his own swimming career with a voluntary coaching role and is a hugely popular member of the team.
