Troost-Ekong undergoes successful surgery
Super Eagles and PAOK defender William Troost-Ekong has undergone a successful surgery after suffering a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg.
The surgery took place in Finland on Tuesday, 27 February, 2024.
He is now a huge doubt when the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup resume in June.
Troost-Ekong suffered the injury in the Super Eagles’ second Group A game against AFCON 2023 hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite the injury, Troost-Ekong led the Eagles all the way to the final.
Unfortunately, the team lost 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire with the defender scoring the opener for the Eagles.
He ended the tournament with three goals and was named Player of the Tournament.
Also, he was named in the Team of the Tournament alongside Ademola Lookman and Ola Aina.
Meanwhile, the duo of Aina and Zaidu Sanusi are down with injuries.
Just like Troost-Ekong, both Aina and Sanusi picked up the injuries at the AFCON 2023.
