Trippier and Saint-Maximin take to Twitter to congratulate Newcastle United team mates on West Ham draw

Newcastle United turned in yet another brilliant performance as they extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 1-1 draw against West Ham.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the result was that both Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin were not involved due to injuries.

Joe Willock stood out for the visitors and it was his goal that ensured the Magpies would be travelling back up north with another point on the board.

He struck on the brink of half time to level the score after Craig Dawson had netted an uncontested opener from a set piece just after the half hour mark.

The Hammers were a stronger force in the second half but Eddie Howe’s side were still able to threaten at times on the counter attack.

Had Saint-Maximin been available, it may well have been a different story with Jacob Murphy and Chris Wood unable to properly stamp their authority on the game.

It was touch-and-go as to whether the Frenchman would be available to play but he was ultimately not involved in the squad. Prior to the match, Howe explained why he had not been risked.

He said: “He got a kick on his calf last week, and it was too sore to play today - it was a late call; we hoped he might make the game, but he didn't.”

Saint-Maximin congratulated his team mates on their performance after the match on Twitter.

He was not the only injured Newcastle to take to social media to comment on the impressive draw as Trippier also reacted on Twitter.

He wrote: “Hard fought point today, well done to the team amazing performance by everyone.”

Following the England right-back’s influential performances in the last two games, there were worries amongst the fanbase that the unbeaten run would come to an end in the capital.
