Tributes roll in for loved mother and grandmother described as 'selfless' and 'kind'


Tributes have come in for a much-loved woman described as ‘selfless’ and ‘caring’ after her death.

Kathryn McGowan Greenhalgh, 71, passed away on December 12 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in September.

Many residents of Gorton, Openshaw and Droyslden paid their tributes online after the announcement of her death by her family including her son, Paul Greenhalgh.

Paul spoke to the MEN: “My mum was beautiful and caring, she was my rock. She would be there for me without hesitation.

“She would put other people’s needs before her own, that was my mum. She came to my need when I had a heart attack back in 2021 to which I had a triple heart bypass she filled my world with joy and helped me in my recovery.

“I stayed with my mum in her final days by her bed and held her hand as she sadly past to the horrible disease. Like I say she really meant the world to me.”

Kathryn grew up in the Ardwick area before coming to Gorton for around 20 years before moving to Audenshaw, an area between Gorton and Droylsden where she had lived for 30 years.

Paul continued: “There was 8 siblings, in all it was a big family. My mum was very family oriented sadly she lost her brother and sister. She would help her family in anyway she could a very caring lady”

“I wouldn’t say she was involved in the community as such but would help her neighbours if they needed help but family was my mums world selflessness loved all her nephews and nieces and their children.

“She has left behind a hole in my world that just won’t be filled sadly. I
