Tributes paid to 'talented' footballer following tragic death

Tributes have been paid to a "talented footballer" following his tragic death.

Ross Aikenhead played for Winsford United, which described him as a "fantastic young man and a terrific footballer". The Cheshire side, which plays in the North West Counties League First Division South, said he will be "sorely missed".

In a post on X this evening (Sunday), the club said: "It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that our player Ross Aikenhead has sadly passed away. Ross was a fantastic young man and a terrific footballer.

"He’ll be missed by everyone at the club. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ross’ family at this time."

Adding their condolences, Wythenshawe Town said: "On behalf of everyone at Wythenshawe Town FC we send our deepest condolences to the family of Ross Aikenhead, Ross played with us in preseason and
