Tributes paid to former Celtic player and Falkirk businessman David Cattanach

Tributes have been paid to former Celtic player and successful Falkirk businessman, David Cattanach, who has died aged 75.

Cattanach joined Celtic in August 1963 from Stirling Albion, however didn't make his debut until just under three years later.

He was part of the legendary 'Quality Street Gang' of talented youngsters who came through the ranks of the club under legendary manager Jock Stein, alongside the likes of Davie Hay, George Connelly, Danny McGrain, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Lou Macari and Vic Davidson.

He only featured sporadically for the first team, making a total of 19 appearances in all competitions for the Celts with 15 starts and four substitute appearances before moving to his hometown club, Falkirk in January 1972 where he went on to finish his career.

In a statement, Celtic FC said: "Everyone at Celtic is saddened to hear of the death of former player, Davie Cattanach, who has passed away at the age of 75.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Davie’s family at this extremely sad time."

He also scored one goal for Celtic, which came on March 30, 1968 in a 5-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

After hanging up his boots, Cattanach went on to be a very successful businessman.

Davie was the head honcho at The Three Kings wedding venue in Shieldhill, where he ensured every happy couple had the most special day.

Those who were lucky enough to be married in the venue and experience Davie's charm have taken to social media.

One person wrote: "I am absolutely gutted to hear this news. Davie was something else and made our wedding the most magical day ever.

"Everything was just perfect under his wing. Thank you again Davie."
