Trent Alexander-Arnold in Liverpool trophy pop at Manchester City as Premier League title race heats up

Trent Alexander-Arnold reckons Liverpool's trophies will 'MEAN MORE' to them and their fans than Manchester City.

The Reds star has taken a swipe at Pep Guardiola's side as the English Premier League title race heats up. Darwin Nunez fired home a last-gasp winner over Nottingham Forest while City came from behind at the Etihad to dump city rivals Manchester United 3-1 in the derby to keep the teams neck and neck at the summit. Arsenal are also in the mix for league glory this term.

Since 2018, Liverpool have been hot on the heels of the reigning Premier League champions, missing out on the title in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons by just one point. In the 2019-20 season, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool stopped Guardiola's team from winning another title. They hope to do the same this season. City have won twice as many major honours as Liverpool during the time Guardiola and Klopp have been in charge [14 vs 7], but Alexander-Arnold has questioned whether City's trophies hold the same value, reports the Mirror.

"It's tough. We're up against a machine that's built to win - that's the simplest way to describe City and their organisation," the Liverpool and England star told Four Four Two. "Looking back on this era, although they've won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, probably means more to our fans."

The top two are separated by just one point with 11 games left of the season. They come up against each other on Sunday at Anfield in a huge 90 minutes that could have a major say on the destiny of the EPL title this season.
