Travel warning issued for passengers heading to and from Manchester Airport
Passengers heading to and from Manchester Airport are being urged to plan ahead for their journey as major works take place. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says there are no Metrolink trams running in either direction between the Airport and Roundthorn today (February 9).
The line closure is to allow track renewal works to take place. As well as passengers heading between the city and the airport, people heading around Wythenshawe are also affected.
Seven Metrolink stops in the town are closed today while the works take place. No services will call at Shadowmoss, Peel Hall, Robinswood Road, Wythenshawe Town Centre, Crossacres, Benchill or Martinscroft.
Passengers can board at Roundthorn for services to Manchester city centre. TfGM is running bus replacement services in both directions between Manchester Airport and Roundthorn every 15 minutes, for passengers with Metrolink tickets.
However, travel bosses say passengers may find a faster or cheaper journey on a Bee Network bus, depending on their destination. Frequent Bee Network buses will be running at bus stops near to the Wythenshawe tram route, although tram tickets will not be accepted on these services.
Services are expected to resume as normal on the Manchester Airport Metrolink line on Monday. Metrolink line works are also continuing between the Eccles and MediaCityUK stops, in Salford, where no trams are running until Tuesday, February 25.
