Travel warning as Manchester City Champions League match clashes with Co-op Live heavy metal gig

There could be some interesting sights tomorrow night as more than 50,000 football fans and 23,000 metal heads make their way to east Manchester at the same time.

Transport bosses have issued a travel warning as Manchester City's Champions League tie with Feyenoord clashes with a gig by London-based heavy metal band Sleep Token at Co-op Live. It's expected around 3,000 Dutch supporters will take part in a co-ordinated fan march to the Etihad from the city centre before the 8pm kick-off.

Transport for Greater Manchester has warned the city centre and the area around the stadium and arena will be 'exceptionally busy' and said they were 'strongly dissuading' anyone from driving to either the game or the concert.

Drivers have been advised to park away from the venues, in either the city centre or at a park and ride stop. The Feyenoord fans are planning to march from Shambles Square, to Great Ancoats Street then onto Ashton New Road from 5pm.

A statement on the TfGM website says: "There will be increased journey times around the city centre, in particular on Great Ancoats Street, the Mancunian Way, Ashton New Road, Ashton Old Road and Alan Turing Way. Background users of the network should re-route to avoid these areas or re-time their journey to travel earlier when the network will be quieter."
