TransPennine Express and Northern slash Manchester fares in huge nationwide ‘rail sale’
More than 2million tickets have been slashed in the government’s annual rail sale, including fares to and from Manchester train stations.
The sale begins today and lasts until January 20 2025, with selected advance and off-peak dares going on sale at up to 50 per cent for travel between January 17 and March 31 2025.
As part of this year’s rail sale, thousands of popular routes across almost all UK train operators, including Transport for Wales and ScotRail, will be offering discounted tickets with journeys spreading the length and breadth of Great Britain.
TranspennineExpress is participating in the sale, with more than 250,000 discounted tickets available to travel across the TPE network. Fares include a trip from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield from £2.50, Leeds to Manchester Airport from £5.90 and Manchester Piccadilly to Glasgow Central from £7.70.
Darren Higgins, Commercial Director at TPE, said: “This is a great opportunity for our customers to get big discounts on train tickets to visit destinations across our network.
“We urge customers to book tickets early to avoid disappointment. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.”
Northern has 500,000 half-price tickets up for grabs. Alex Hornby, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “The 500,000 Advance Purchase tickets we’re making available for the Rail Sale will be spread the length and breadth of our network.
“Northern already offers exceptional value for money – with the average price of a journey with Northern costing around £4 – and so we’re pleased to be able to offer these Rail Sale fares to our customers, making the train an even more attractive option.”
Following the success of last year’s sale – which saved passengers around £5.8 million in total
