Transfer Gossip: Exciting 2020 attacking target back on Man Utd radar as Ten Hag eyes swoop; Barcelona send Mo Salah transfer message

Manchester United are back on the trail of Lyon winger Rayan Cherki, who they wanted in 2020, while Sunday’s Transfer Gossip claims that Barcelona have sent Liverpool forward Mo Salah an open invitation to join them next summer.

The Old Trafford outfit were strongly linked with the player back in 2020 after he broke into Lyon’s first team.

Since his debut, the 18-year-old has gone on to score nine goals in 62 appearances in all competitions. However, he suffered a serious leg injury towards the back end of last season which severely limited his game time.

United‘s interest has been sparked following a report from Foot1 that Cherki is yet to respond to Lyon’s offer of a new contract.

The report states that Lyon have not got very far in talks to keep one of their stars. Indeed, Cherki’s contract runs out next summer, so they need to act fast.

That is an issue they are willing to solve though. Largely due to fact they could lose both Houssem Aouar and Moussa Dembele this summer.

Losing two of their main attacking talents means Lyon are determined to keep Cherki on board.

However, if a tempting offer comes in from United or Real Madrid, who also wanted the forward two years ago, then they may buckle.

Much depends on the sales of Aouar and Dembele. If those two go then significant funds will come, meaning they are in a stronger position to keep Cherki.

But all the while those two remain in France and Cherki does not sign a new deal, United will continue to monitor the player’s progress.
