Tragedy as person found dead at railway station
A person has tragically died on the railway. Trains between Manchester and London were among those affected by the incident this morning (January 17).
Emergency services were called out to Longport station, in Stoke-on-Trent, shortly before 7am today. Police and paramedics both attended the scene.
Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Their family have been informed. A British Transport Police spokesperson added: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Northern, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry services heading to and from Manchester Piccadilly were among those affected by the incident. Several services were cancelled or delayed this morning.
