Tragedy as fan dies at Manchester United and Rangers Europa League clash
A fan tragically passed away at the Europa League match between Manchester United and Rangers, it has been confirmed.
The man, aged in his 80s, suffered a medical episode at the match on Thursday night (January 23). before later being pronounced dead. The Manchester Evening News understands he was a Rangers supporter.
Police and paramedics were called to the incident during the match at Old Trafford. The man later died, it has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed a man in his 80s died following a medical episode and that there were deemed to be no suspicious circumstances. Manchester United have been approached for comment.
Thousands of Rangers fans made the trip from Glasgow to Manchester for the highly anticipated game between the British sides.
Around 4,000 travelling fans are thought to have had official tickets for the away end but it is estimated many more Rangers fans made the trip to the game, which the Ibrox side lost 2-1.
