Trafford Centre unveils multi-million pound food court with new name - full list of restaurants
The Trafford Centre has officially unveiled its new multi-million pound food court - and confirmed its new name for the first time.
The former China Town area has been given a bright and modern new look, with a new circular entrance feature - and it will now officially be known as "Eastern Gardens". It is dedicated wholly to homegrown, independent restaurants in another first for the vast shopping centre.
The space reopened to the public just before Christmas, but a formal launch was held on Wednesday to showcase the new brands that have since opened there, with more to follow.
Once inside the circular entrance, guests walk under a canopy of pink cherry blossom trees that runs right across the newly-opened glass roof at the mall.
The pink theme is continued in the décor along the route, which plays host to food and drink operators from across Greater Manchester, including Nichi, Chit ‘n’ Chaat, Hello Oriental restaurant and bakery, and Blanchflower Coffee and Bakery.
The floor is dominated by a new Chinese lattice tiled design, before you can then walk on into the main Orient and Great Hall space inside the Trafford Centre.
Trafford Centre director Simon Layton said: "This centre is very unique, it's always been synonymous with grandeur and opulence. We wanted to retain that magic with some of the new brands we're now bringing into the centre.
"Every brand at Eastern Gardens is home grown Manchester talent. Culinary talent is a really key part of Manchester's culture so we're really proud to showcase that here."
The Eastern Gardens passageway is one of the main routes through to The Orient central food court. Formerly China Town, the thoroughfare had been closed for months last year while works were underway for the
