Tottenham want to 'win over' £20m target this month at Hotspur Way

Tottenham expect to hear more in their chase for Djed Spence by the middle of June, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs have emerged as frontrunners for the Middlesbrough right-back but face stiff competition from several Premier League and European sides.

Tottenham have been chasing the 21-year-old’s signature since the January window, although Antonio Conte’s side are still waiting on Spence, who played a key role in helping Nottingham Forest win promotion to the Premier League via the play offs last month, to decide on his future.

According to Football.London, top-flight rivals Brentford, Forest and Newcastle are also in the race, as are European giants Borussia Dortmund and Roma.

But The Northern Echo reported believe Conte’s men are at an ‘advanced stage’ in their bid to make Spence their second summer addition, following Ivan Perisic’s arrival last month.

However, with Spence, who’s set to cost around £20m, currently away on international duty with England Under-21s, Jones doesn’t expect Spurs to get a concrete update on his future for another couple of weeks.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Forest believe that they’re the frontrunners, but Tottenham want the chance to win him over.

“They don’t know where his head is at in this exact moment. I think by the middle of June, when things settle down, the window is opened and the internationals are out the way, they intend to find out exactly where Djed Spence’s mind is at and whether that deal is doable.”

Providing Spence does stay in the Premier League, then Tottenham should be confident of beating off competition from Newcastle, Brentford, and Forest.
