Tottenham: Update on James Maddison links with Hotspur Way move

There is ‘no chance’ that Tottenham Hotspur are going to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Maddison is enjoying his best-ever goalscoring season for the Foxes and has reportedly attracted the attention of some of the Premier League’s top teams as a result.

According to The Sun, Spurs and local rivals Arsenal are ready to ‘battle’ over the highly-rated 25-year-old as they attempt to close the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

With just over two years remaining on his current contract, Maddison is reportedly valued at around £60 million by Leicester, a figure that would see him become Tottenham’s most expensive ever signing.

The north London outfit offloaded several attacking midfielders in the January transfer window, with Bryan Gil, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli all departing.

It remains to be seen if Lyon and Villarreal take up their options to buy Ndombele and Lo Celso, respectively, though, while Gil could be reintegrated into the first-team following his six-month loan spell with Valencia.

However, The Sun claim that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is a ‘fan’ of Maddison and is keen to strengthen his options in the final third of the pitch, yet any deal could hinge on their ability to offload either Ndombele or Lo Celso on a permanent basis.

In contrast to the recent report, Jones has revealed that Spurs are not believed to be in the running for Maddison’s signature and that the playmaker is unlikely to be plying his trade at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next term.
