Tottenham throw caution to the wind with £42m star lined up for cash-plus-player Bastoni bid

Tottenham are ready to try a new approach to sign Alessandro Bastoni after a report claimed they’ll include a £42m signing in a cash-plus-player bid.

Bastoni, 23, has been earmarked as the ideal candidate to take up the left-sided role in Antonio Conte’s back three. The Inter Milan ace is already a regular in Italy national squads and his addition would be the next step in Conte’s revolution in north London.

Sky Sports reported Tottenham have opened talks with Inter Milan over a transfer this summer. Italian outlet Calciomercato later doubled down on the good news when claiming Inter are nearing an agreement for Bastoni’s would-be replacement, Gleison Bremer.

However, the news since then hasn’t made great reading for Spurs fans.

Bastoni’s agent, Tullio Tinti, met with Inter chiefs on Wednesday to discuss his client’s future. After leaving the meeting, Tinti said: “Bastoni will certainly remain at Inter.

“He has a contract with Inter, he is happy to play at Inter and there’s no problem.”

Clearly, Tottenham have their work cut out if they’re to sign Conte’s perfect left-sided centre-half. And according to CalcioMercatoWeb, a new approach is being readied.

They report Davinson Sanchez is being lined up to be included in a cash-plus-player bid. €30m (£25.75m) would be tabled from Tottenham’s end to sweeten the deal.

Sanchez arrived at Spurs in 2017 in a deal worth up to £42m pending add-ons. The Colombian made a bright start when playing alongside the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, but has struggled for consistency since that experienced duo departed.
