Ryan Sessegnon will not return from injury immediately after the international break as Tottenham had hoped, according to a report.
The 21-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in Spurs’ 5-0 Premier League win over Everton earlier in March. The issue ended a remarkable run of form for the player following recent struggles in north London.
Injuries plagued Sessegnon in the 2019/20 campaign – his first at Spurs following a move from Fulham – before he remained a bench player for the rest of the season.
And after his return from a loan spell with Hoffenheim, he has again played only nine times for Tottenham this term. However, six of those came appearances came in a row. That represented his longest streak of game time at the club.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte admitted it was “bad news” when revealing the results of Sessegnon’s scan.
The manager also revealed hopes of seeing the left-back and left midfielder return straight after the international break.
But, ESPN has now claimed that Sessegnon will not meet that recovery timeline.
Instead, the England Under-21 international will miss upcoming Spurs matches against Newcastle and Aston Villa.
Tottenham are therefore ready to have him back for the Premier League clash with Brighton in north London on April 16.
