Tottenham's Rodrigo Bentancur dropped by skill in Premier League defeat to Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur slumped to their fourth defeat in just five Premier League games on Wednesday night.

Having already lost to Chelsea, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in a rotten run of form, Spurs became just the third team to suffer a league defeat at the hands of Burnley this season.

Despite flying high on the back of their breath-taking 3-2 win at Manchester City over the weekend, the north London could hardly have experienced a bigger reality check than a 1 -0 loss at Turf Moor.

In a performance so bad that Antonio Conte even hinted at leaving the club in his post-match interviews, Ben Mee proved the difference between the two sides by scoring an emphatic second-half header.

However, truth be told, you got the feeling that luck simply wasn’t on Tottenham’s side from the first few minutes in the north-west with Rodrigo Bentancur suffering an unfortunate moment.

With Conte wanting to make his stamp on the north London club, Bentancur was brought in from Juventus in a highly-praised deal and made just his fifth appearance for his new employers against Burnley.

And his trip to the wet and windy home of Sean Dyche’s men was almost over after less than seven minutes when it looked as though he might be substituted with an early injury.

Why? Well, because the Uruguayan midfielder came up second best in a one-on-one situation against Josh Brownhill that culminated in the Burnley man wiggling away by changing direction.

Naturally, Bentancur tried to shift his balance to rectify the fact that he’d been sent to the shops, but a combination of Brownhill’s original skill and the wet surface meant that he went crashing to the turf.
