Tottenham now 'prioritising' agreement with £200k-a-week star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur have made tying Harry Kane down to a new long-term contract a ‘priority’ at Hotspur Way, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Spurs were not afraid to splash the cash during the summer transfer window and parted with more than £150million, but agreeing fresh terms with Kane is now at the forefront of head coach Antonio Conte’s thinking.

Conte has claimed that Kane is happy at Tottenham and he believes the club are heading in the right direction when it comes to persuading him to sign a contract extension.

Having come through the ranks at Hotspur Way, the striker has entered the final two years of his £200,000-per-week deal with the north Londoners.

According to German media outlet Bild, via The Sun, Bayern Munich are urging Kane to hold off putting pen-to-paper just yet.

The report suggests the Bundesliga giants could reignite their interest in the 73-cap England international next summer and there is growing confidence that they will be able to get a deal done.

Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn has previously described a move for Kane as ‘a dream of the future’, but sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted the former goalkeeper is not pushing for a transfer.

Barclay believes Spurs will be doubling down in their efforts to convince Kane to sign a new contract now that the transfer window has closed.

The journalist understands that Conte is desperate to see the 29-year-old remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the foreseeable future.
