Tottenham news: Everton's surprise Dele Alli terms as Jose Mourinho proved right

Jose Mourinho's prophecy about Dele Alli has been proven true after the midfielder left Spurs for Everton on transfer deadline day.

Alli spent seven years at Tottenham after signing from MK Dons in 2015 but failed to build on his early potential at the club.

He became an important part of the side under former boss Mauricio Pochettino before Mourinho raised his concerns with the player in the Amazon Prime documentary 'All or Nothing'.

And after leaving for Everton, Mourinho's words of warning have come true, with his teammates now left wishing the former England international a fond farewell.

Alli had looked set to leave for Newcastle on loan, before Tottenham were left surprised by Everton's terms for a move to Goodison Park.

Tottenham reportedly couldn't quite believe their luck when Everton came in with a deadline day move to sign Dele Alli on a permanent deal.

Everton could end up paying up to £40 million for Alli, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, but the transfer will be paid in installments with the first £10m due once he has registered 20 appearances on Merseyside.

Spurs were expecting to send Alli out on loan – and were said to be left 'surprised' that they were given the opportunity to get him off their books permanently in the final hours of the window.
