Tottenham: 'Huge signal of intent' if Paratici lands £63m ace

Signing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez would be a “huge signal of intent” from Tottenham, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Tottenham have been keen on signing the Argentina international since last summer and could try their luck once again in the next window with his former Inter boss Antonio Conte now in charge.

According to Football.London, Tottenham and Inter Milan had agreed a fee of 60m euros for his services.

However, with Romelu Lukaku already being heavily linked with a return to Chelsea, Inter weren’t willing to lose both of their main strikers and ended up keeping Martinez at San Siro.

But Tottenham still haven’t managed to sign another striker to provide competition or play alongside Harry Kane and remain firmly in the market for one heading into the summer window, with the 24-year-old still on their radar.

According to Jacque Talbot, sporting director Fabio Paratici is a fan of Martinez and even tried to sign him in January.

Martinez has become one of the most sought of strikers around Europe and has an impressive goalscoring record to show for himself. In 176 appearances for Inter, he’s scored 69 goals and laid on 23 assists, with more than half of those goals strikes coming under the guidance of Conte.

As a result, O’Rourke reckons that bringing the £63m-rated striker to north London would send out a statement to their rivals.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It would be a massive coup; I think Martinez is one of the best strikers in Europe.

“He’s proven himself in the Champions League and in Serie A with Inter as well, so it would be a huge signal of intent if Spurs could get him.”
