Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United VAR handball decision explained amid Bruno Fernandes outrage
Dermot Gallagher has poured cold water on suggestions from Bruno Fernandes that Manchester United ought to receive an apology for being denied a penalty during their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham.
Goals from Pape Matar Sarr and a Lisandro Martinez own goal settled the scores in north London as an under-par United were swept aside. However, the Reds, and in particular Bruno Fernandes, had one notable complaint before the deadlock had been broken at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
United had shouts for a penalty turned down after 25 minutes when a shot from Alejandro Garnacho hit Tottenham defender Cristian Romero on the arm. However, while Fernandes and his teammates went up, their protests were waved away by referee Michael Oliver.
VAR did not intervene and, speaking during his post-match interview, United captain Fernandes demanded an apology from Jon Moss - Select Group 1 manager at PGMOL - after he spoke to Wolves about an 'error' which benefited United in their season opener when the Molineux men were denied a late penalty.
Speaking to Stadium Astro post-match, playmaker Fernandes said: "They [referees] have to start giving interviews after the games so they can explain themselves. It is a clear penalty, no excuses for not seeing, no excuses for VAR not seeing that."

He added: "Last week they made a big thing on United not having a penalty against, so I want to see what is going to happen this week, if there is going to be the same show they did last week. I want to see if Jon Moss also
