Tottenham 'have their eye on' £26m defender at Hotspur Way

Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Barcelona star Clement Lenglet, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Antonio Conte has already made three signings this summer, but he is still waiting to bring in a central defender.

According to the Telegraph, the Spurs boss wants to sign a left-sided defender this window, with his approach for top target Alessandro Bastoni unsuccessful.

Therefore, Conte is having to look elsewhere, and is now seeking a loan move for Lenglet, who’s made 315 club appearances in his career, more than half of which have come for the La Liga giants.

According to ESPN, the north Londoners would be prepared to cover a ‘significant part’ of the Frenchman’s wages if he makes the loan switch, with the 27-year-old not part of Xavi’s plans moving forward, although Barcelona would prefer a permanent deal.

Regardless, having experienced more than 40 games in the Champions League, Jones reckons that he would instantly improve the standard of Conte’s backline.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He would be a good fit and would raise the level of that defence, he’s coming from a good club, and he’s got a point to prove.

“I think Lenglet would be a good signing and there’s absolutely no doubt he’s one of the guys they’ve got their eye on.”
