A report has revealed why Josko Gvardiol who Tottenham identified as an ideal addition to Antonio Conte’s backline will take an almighty effort to sign this summer.
The Athletic recently detailed what will be one of Tottenham’s transfer priorities this upcoming summer. The outlet claimed providing Antonio Conte with an upgrade on Ben Davies is on the club’s agenda.
The Welshman has performed admirably at left centre-back since Conte took charge, though the market could provide the ideal opportunity to take Spurs’ rearguard to the next level.
Among the list of potential signings named were RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
Those two in particular were deemed ‘top of the list’ at Tottenham, with Gvardiol arguably the most exciting addition.
The Croatian, 20, is already a regular in his national side and has been a near ever-present with Leipzig this season.
His ability to operate at centre-back, left centre-back in a three, or as a left-back make him an enticing option in the market.
However, given his rapid rise of late, it was acknowledged Spurs would face a tough task prising him away from Leipzig.

The German publication – who are dedicated to coverage of RB Leipzig – explained just how difficult bringing Gvardiol to north London will be.
Firstly, they stated it’s ‘extremely unlikely’ that Tottenham have a decent shot of snagging Gvardiol this summer.
The defender’s current deal in Germany runs all the way until 2026. As such, Leipzig are in a strong negotiating position and would be able to demand a huge fee.
