Tottenham: Fresh claim emerges on Spurs' top four chances after Brighton defeat

Fourth place is Tottenham‘s to lose heading into the business end of the campaign, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

Despite Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton, the north London outfit are still leading the race for the top four.

Spurs were bidding for to record five consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since December 2018 against the Seagulls over the weekend.

But Conte’s side, who had the chance to move six points clear of Arsenal ahead of their trip to Southampton, fluffed their lines and were beaten by Leandro Trossard’s injury-time strike.

Fortunately for Tottenham, the Gunners were unable to take advantage, going down 1-0 at St Mary’s Stadium, meaning Spurs are still in pole position to finish fourth despite Manchester United’s victory over Norwich bringing them back into contention.

Should Tottenham finish in the top four, it would see them return to the Champions League after two seasons out of the competition and improve their chances of keeping Conte, who’s hinted that he could leave the club this summer, and Kane, whose future remains uncertain once again.

And Bridge believes that despite the Brighton defeat, Conte’s side should go on and complete the job.

Asked whether it’s Tottenham’s to lose, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it is. Spurs have got the momentum; they’re looking like a real Conte team right now.  Aside from the Brighton result, over the last few weeks they’ve played how Antonio Conte wants them to play and everything seems to be clicking.”
