Tottenham forward hints at summer exit – ‘I don’t get to play much’

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn has hinted that he would be open to leaving the club during the summer transfer window.

Following an impressive spell in the Netherlands with PSV, Spurs signed Bergwijn in 2020 for around £26m.

The winger has struggled to establish himself for Spurs as he has been a bit-part player over the past couple of seasons.

The 24-year-old has only started four times in the Premier League this term.

Erik ten Hag’s Ajax were interested in Bergwijn during the winter transfer window. The Dutch outfit could not agree a fee with Spurs, though.

“I don’t get to play much at the club. I am happy that the national coach has called me up, that’s not obvious (thing to do),” Bergwijn said (quotes via Sport Witness).

“You don’t forget about football. But of course, you feel that you don’t play that much. It was nice to be here again. We have a good and fun group.”

Bergwijn went onto admit that he doesn’t know whether his form for the Netherlands would improve his situation at Tottenham:
