Tottenham 'definitely in the box seat' for £15m star at Hotspur Way
Tottenham Hotspur are ‘definitely in the box seat’ for Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
Spence has reportedly caught the attention of a host of top teams from across the continent following an outstanding season on loan with Nottingham Forest.
According to The Express, Tottenham are ‘preparing to firm up their interest’ in Spence as they look to beat Forest and several other potential suitors to his signature.
Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Brentford are also believed to be closely monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation, with Boro set to demand £15 million for their prized asset.
Spurs are said to have had two bids for Spence rebuffed in January, but a personal scouting mission by director of football Fabio Paratici the following month convinced the capital club to stay on his trail.
And The Mirror have reinforced those claims, stating that Tottenham are ‘leading the race’ for the marauding right-back.
With midfielder Harry Winks up for sale, Spence would also help to boost the north London outfit’s homegrown quota, a factor that heavily influenced their decision to sign backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is not thought to be convinced by either Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty, his current options at right wing-back.

And O’Rourke believes that Boro are ‘definitely open to offers for Spence this summer’, meaning the England Under-21 international could be on the tactician’s radar.
