Tottenham: Conte reunion with £67m star 'would be massive for Spurs'

Tottenham Hotspur would make a ‘massive’ statement by signing Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez as a strike partner for Harry Kane, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

England captain Kane is the only out-and-out striker currently on Spurs’ books, so head coach Antonio Conte may look to bolster his options in that position when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Conte may have been appointed as Tottenham’s boss last November, but his previous spell in the Inter Milan dugout means he knows Martinez inside out.

The Italian selected Martinez 97 times during his stint at the San Siro and the frontman repaid his faith by bagging 40 goals.

They also got their hands on the Serie A title during their time together and it appears Conte wants to seal a reunion as, according to Calciomercato – via The Spurs Web – he has ordered managing director Fabio Paratici to tempt Martinez into heading to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The same Italian media outlet has revealed Spurs are preparing to go head-to-head with north London rivals Arsenal in an attempt to secure the 24-year-old’s services.

The report suggests Inter would be open to selling Martinez for in the region of £67million, but the reigning Serie A champions have yet to receive a bid for the 37-cap Argentina international.

Brown is excited about the prospect of Martinez swapping the San Siro for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As Conte oversaw Martinez and Romelu Lukaku creating a formidable partnership at Inter, the journalist believes he may hope to achieve similar success by pairing the Argentinian with Kane.
