Tottenham considering massive deal for £50m Premier League star at Hotspur Way
Tottenham target James Maddison might consider a move to a club playing in Europe, according to Dean Jones.
Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on making the creative midfielder his seventh summer signing and Jones reckons it would be “interesting” if the north Londoners make an official approach to Leicester.
According to reports, Spurs are ‘very seriously considering’ a move for the 25-year-old, who was in outstanding form for the Foxes last season.
Maddison has entered the final two years of his contract and the Midlands outfit therefore know this window is one of their last chances to receive a hefty fee for the ex-Norwich star.
Leicester were weighing up selling the midfielder back in April in a bid to revamp their squad this summer, with the Daily Mail stating that Maddison would cost around £50m.
However, with Youri Tielemans‘ future in serious doubt, Jones is unsure whether they would be willing to sell two of their most important players in the same window.
Asked whether Spurs could make a move for the one-cap England international, he said: “They have absolutely no intention of selling Maddison in this window but let’s see if an offer lands and who it’s from.
“Maddison has big ambitions, so it would be very interesting if a Champions League club or even Europa League club make a bid. The prospect of losing Tielemans and Maddison in the same window is pretty unthinkable.”
Similar to Yves Bissouma and Richarlison, Maddison ticks plenty of boxes for Conte and would really be a statement signing for Spurs.
Besides Danny Ward, who played once, the midfielder was Leicester’s best player by some distance last season, according to WhoScored.
