Tottenham confirm that Oliver Skipp will miss rest of season after undergoing surgery

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Oliver Skipp will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery in America.

The 21-year-old central midfielder has missed the past three months of the season due to a pelvic injury with Antonio Conte and the player growing increasingly frustrated by his absence for what was initially believed to be a small problem. Now the England U21 international has crossed the Atlantic in order to get surgery on it.

"We can confirm that Oliver Skipp has undergone surgery in America this morning to repair a pubis injury and will be out for the remainder of the season," read a statement from the club. "The academy graduate, 21, will now undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training for the pre-season period."

The truth about Antonio Conte and PSG, release clause talk and Daniel Levy calls to Pochettino

Skipp signed a new five year deal this month and Conte had told only a fortnight ago that the player would not be out for the season when asked if it was better to rest him until the summer to solve the problem.

"No, no, no, absolutely not, we have to recover him for this season. Full stop. This must be our target, for the medical department, for the player," he said. "It's totally different from Tanganga's situation. Japhet had a knee injury and was out for the season, but Skipp, no. It's important for the player to feel this possibility and there is this possibility to recover this season.

"Also we need him and we trust him. He's a really good guy. I'm really sorry for him because he doesn't deserve this type of injury, but I repeat he has to recover this season and I push the medical department to recover him this season because we need him."
