Tottenham: Antonio Conte facing 'real mystery' with £18m star

Throwing Oliver Skipp in for the final few games of the season could be a “gamble” for Tottenham following his “mystery” injury, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £18m-rated midfielder hasn’t played since January and could miss the rest of the campaign.

It’s been a mixed few months for the youngster, who could end up missing almost the entire second half of the season but was recently rewarded for his pre-Christmas form with a new deal.

Having made 28 appearances in all competitions and made himself a regular starter under Antonio Conte prior to his layoff, Skipp was handed a new long-term contract by the club until 2027.

But it remains unclear whether the 21-year-old will be able to celebrate his contract extension on the pitch, with his pelvic problem still causing issues.

Skipp did return to the grass at Hotspur Way earlier this month, but he suffered a setback after feeling discomfort on the injured area.

Overall, Skipp has missed the last 13 Premier League games, and O’Rourke reckons that it would be a risky decision for Conte to bring him back so late in the season following several months on the sidelines.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Skipp’s injury has been a real mystery for the Tottenham medical staff, and it would be a bit of a gamble to chuck him in for the last few weeks of the season considering he’s been out for so long.”

With less than four weeks remaining of the current campaign, Skipp is facing a race against time to return.
