Tottenham: £80k-a-week star's future now 'in doubt' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham wing-back Sergio Reguilon is likely to leave the club this summer if they sign a left-sided player, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs look to be closing in on adding another wing-back to their ranks, which could spell the end of Reguilon’s time in north London.

The majority shareholders ENIC have announced they will inject £150m into the club this summer, indicating that it will be a busy transfer window at Hotspur Way.

Spurs have wasted little time in getting to work, and are nearing a deal for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham and Perisic reached an agreement on Saturday, and an official announcement confirming the player’s arrival is expected shortly.

The Mirror has reported that Barcelona are interested in Reguilon, while Real Madrid also have a buy-back clause, which could see the defender return to the Bernabeu this summer.

With a deal for Perisic almost complete, Jones fully expects Reguilon to move back to his homeland ahead of next season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think there’ll be much of a future for Reguilon. His future is definitely in doubt. If they sign a new left-sided player, especially early on in the window, it’s curtains for him, and you imagine he’ll be heading back to Spain.”

When Reguilon first arrived from Real Madrid, he looked like an exciting acquisition. Tottenham had a fairly miserable 2020/21 campaign under Jose Mourinho, but the £80,000-a-week full-back showed some signs of promise, as he made 36 appearances in all competitions, racking up six assists along the way.
