Tottenham: £150k-a-week star 'not a priority' for Conte at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur will assess the market before deciding whether to lure free agent Jesse Lingard to Hotspur Way, but the creative midfielder ‘is not a priority’ for Antonio Conte, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Having been appointed as Spurs’ head coach last November and secured Champions League qualification, Conte has been seeking reinforcements during the summer window.

Lingard is currently without a club after leaving Manchester United when his contract expired at the end of last month.

According to the Telegraph, Tottenham are mulling over whether to offer the 29-year-old a deal ahead of the new season.

The report suggests Lingard, a 32-cap England international, is being considered as a potential option as Conte looks to add more homegrown talent to his midfield.

However, Spurs are not the only Premier League outfit showing an interest as West Ham have already made an offer to Lingard’s representatives.

Everton are also attempting to sign the former Manchester United star, although he does not appear to be keen on moving to Goodison Park, while Newcastle United are still hopeful of winning the race for Lingard’s signature.

Romano understands Lingard, who has wage demands of £150,000-per-week, is not among Conte’s top targets ahead of the 2022/23 campaign getting underway next month.

However, the transfer guru believes the Italian’s stance could change if he manages to offload the likes of Harry Winks and Steven Bergwijn.

Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “It will depend on how they sell these players. Then they will wait for the market and see what the possibilities are.

“But I’m told Lingard is not a priority for Tottenham as of now.”
