Toto Wolff wants Monaco layout adjusted after Sunday's race

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has said that the layout of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit needs changing following on from Sunday’s race.

Heavy rain just before the start of the Grand Prix postponed the start by around an hour but once we got going there was still a decent level of excitement, with Sergio Perez plotting his way to victory after starting third.

Mercedes, meanwhile, finished in 5th with George Russell and 8th with Lewis Hamilton, with the latter stuck behind Fernando Alonso for the second half of the race.

Indeed, the Spaniard was saving his tyres for much of the closing stages and that reduced pace meant the likes of Hamilton, on the narrowest circuit of the season, was trapped for the conclusion of the Grand Prix.

That said, then, it’s evident Wolff would like the layout looked at in order to try and improve the overall racing spectacle:

“That was the usual chaotic race in Monaco – and once again, a lesson that we need to look at this circuit layout, so people can’t drive round five seconds off the pace in a procession.

“This is a fantastic venue and spectacle – but it would be great if the racing could be at the same level.

“With the length of the race, and the delays and interruptions, it felt more like an NFL game than a Grand Prix – but I’m not sure that much else could have been done.”

Of course, the layout has been discussed plenty of times before but no-one has yet found a solution for the race – time will tell if they ever do.
