Top players set for Acropolis Golf Club’s maiden tourney

Some of the country’s top stars, including number one professional golfer, Francis Epe, have registered to play in the Acropolis Golf Club’s maiden tournament slated for April 5 in Ihiala, Anambra State.

The club would be launched on April 5 and according to Acting Manager of The Acropolis Resort, home of the golf course, Obioma Ogakwu, many golfers are interested in being part of the event because of the impressive design and the expertise interpreted on the golf course.

She said: “The amount of interest the Acropolis Golf Course has generated among the golfing community is amazing. The Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGA of Nigeria) has also shown some interest. And that has resulted in some of the best-ranked players in the country to be part of the launch.”

Apart from Epe, other players listed for the event are Nigeria’s former number one, Sunday Olapade, who won the Libreville Open (in Gabon) recently and the 2023 winner of Goldfield Championship in Ghana, Gift Willy, 2023 CIO Open winner, Oche Odoh, who is also the most decorated Nigerian professional golfer, and Femi Olagbenro, the most respected professional golf administrator in Nigeria.

Ogakwu said the calibre of players listedfor the inaugural event has been carefully selected and their presence and game will add value to the overall objective of The Acropolis Resort.

“These are the best in their business, and Acropolis Golf Course is designed with that same value, to attract the best and also groom players to be the best. Sometime in the future, we are expecting that some of the best players in the country would have been groomed from here.”

Professional consultant on the project, Mike Ubi, said the course is ready for the April launch date,
