Arsenal ready for any opponent, boasts Odegaard

Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard, insists the Gunners will fear no-one in the Champions League quarterfinal draw – including holders and title rivals, Manchester City, reports dailystar.co.uk.

Arsenal go into tomorrow’s draw in Nyon alongside Europe’s big guns after reaching the last eight for the first time since 2010 following a penalty shootout win over Porto.

Waiting for them will be the likes of reigning champions, City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris-Saint Germain.

But Odegaard insists Mikel Arteta’s men couldn’t care less who they have to face. And he has warned his rivals Arsenal will relish being on the biggest stage in European club football again. Odegaard said: “That’s where we want to be. We want to be on the biggest stage.

“We want to play the biggest games and fight for the biggest trophies. So, that’s where we want to be. To be honest, we can’t think like that (wanting to avoid someone). It’s the biggest tournament in the world and no matter what team we get, it’s going to be a good team. But we will just take what we get, and we will try to win.”

Arsenal have not won a European trophy in 30 years. And despite being on course to land a Premier League and Champions League double, Odegaard reckons the best is still to come from his side.

He added: “Every time we play, we want to win. We want to fight for all the trophies we can. That’s the goal, but as I said many times, we have to take it game by game and step by step.

“There are still so many things we can improve. That’s the focus we have to have now to go until the end, then we will see what happens.”
