Top four key in Man Utd, Arsenal fight for Leicester star

Manchester United and Arsenal both reportedly revived their interest in Youri Tielemans ‘last week’, with the race for the top four thought to be key in their bids to land the Leicester star.

Tielemans is yet to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium beyond 2023, when his current deal is set to expire.

Het Belang van Limburg (via Sport Witness) claim ‘things are not going well at Leicester’ for Tielemans due to ‘transfer issues’.

The report claims the Belgium international wanted to leave the Foxes last summer but suitors including United and Arsenal were put off by the €70m price tag.

The 24-year-old is said to want Leicester to drop that valuation in the hope of leaving this summer.

He doesn’t want to stay until the end of his contract and leave for free as he is ‘far too grateful’ to Leicester.

Arsenal and United reportedly ‘showed interest again’ in the midfielder ‘last week’ but a move to either will depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League.

Arsenal currently occupy the all important fourth spot in the Premier League and are four points above sixth placed United with a game in hand.

The two sides meet towards the end of April in what could be a crunch game in the qualification stakes.

Speculation has been rife over the future of Tielemans for some time and the midfielder is frequently asked about his future.

He was asked about it again on international duty for Belgium this week and reasserted that his focus is on this season, but admits he is “ready” for Champions League football.
