Top-four finish may be 'beyond' Wolves

Journalist Dean Jones thinks finishing in the top four this season is “beyond” Bruno Lage and Wolves.

The Midlands club are currently in contention for fourth place, sitting just six points behind Manchester United with two games in hand, but Jones cannot see them doing the unthinkable.

Very well. Going into Thursday’s clash against top-four rivals Arsenal, Wolves find themselves in seventh place after winning 12 games and losing eight.

Lage, however, is still trying to find a balance, with his side sturdy at the back but not exactly firing going forward.

In the Premier League this season, they have conceded just 18 goals, a record only Manchester City can better, but have only scored 23.

To put that into perspective, only Burnley (20) and bottom-placed Norwich City (15) have struggled more in front of goal (via WhoScored). It means there is a lot of work to do if Wolves are to secure Champions League football for next season.

While Jones has acknowledged Wolves’ consistency this term and how well they have done defensively, the transfer insider does not think they can go all the way.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “They might as well aim for the top four and if they fall short, which they probably will, they’ve still got European football to look forward to next season.

“I’ve seen a few people talking about them genuinely finishing in that fourth spot. It’s probably a bit beyond them at this point, but you can understand why because the consistency of their performances and how defensively strong they are.“
