Top class competition and hospitality draws Canadian curler Clancy Grandy back to Perth Masters

International curlers with hopes of beginning 2024 on the front foot have again descended on Perth this week.

The Mercure City of Perth Masters has a habit of welcoming world-class teams from around the globe and a plethora of players often return year-after-year.

One curler with previous positive experiences of the Dewars Centre event is Canadian Clancy Grandy, who is a previous winner of the women’s event.

Grandy, from Ontario, shared her excitement of being back in the Fair City ahead of hitting the ice for her opening round-robin match on Thursday night.

The long-running tournament plays through until Sunday and is free for spectators.

“I’ve played in Perth a couple of times and I know how good the event is,” Grandy told the PA.

“It is really unique and the hospitality you get is something I remember really fondly. It will be nice to experience that again this week.

“There are some top teams in the event and it is a really strong field. We are just going to need to take it one game at a time.

“Playing international is something that is important to our team. We don’t know everything teams are doing tactically but it is good for us because it means we need to play at our best.”

Grandy, who is off the back of a busy first half of the season, is the partner of talented Perth curler Robin Brydone.

Brydone is also competing in the Perth Masters this week with Team Whyte, whose ranks include fellow local Duncan McFadzean as well as Euan Kyle and Ross Whyte.

Grandy has actually been in Perth since before Christmas before the rest of her team - Kayla Macmillan, Lindsay Dubue and Sarah Loken - arrived on January 1.
