Tony Docherty claims Michael Mellon's LIFE was risked by Liam Gordon challenge as Dundee boss demands explanation

Fuming Tony Docherty haș insisted St Johnstone skipper Liam Gordon’s aerial challenge on Michael Mellon was “almost life-endangering.”

Dundee admitted the on-loan Burnley striker had been knocked out, after the pair challenged, in stoppage time in Sunday 2-1 win over St Johnstone. Mellon was stretchered off during the Premiership clash and then taken to hospital. Referee David Munro had actually waved play on but Dundee’s doctor, Derek McCormack, saw the severity of the collision and immediately ran on to aid the Scotland under-21 cap. Dundee boss Docherty admitted: “He’s not great. I’d like the referee to comment on that. For me, that was almost life-endangering that challenge. And to not even get a booking for it…

"Michael is a top boy in our team and I’m concerned for him because he took a really bad blow to the back of the head. Luckily we have a brilliant doctor here, Dr McCormack, who didn’t pay any attention to the referee and ran on the pitch.

“He recognised what happened. It was a sour note at the end of the game and the player’s welfare is the most important thing.

“But I’d like you to ask the referee about it.”
