Tonbridge Angels winger Joe Turner signs new deal at Longmead

Crowd favourite Joe Turner has signed a new deal at Tonbridge.

It keeps the long-serving winger at Longmead for a seventh season, having joined from Kingstonian in 2017.

The 29-year-old, who can also play up front, has scored 67 goals in 246 Angels appearances.

Turner battled through a hernia in the early part of the season before having an operation in December.

He still played 44 times as Tonbridge enjoyed their best-ever finish of ninth in National South, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists.

Turner said: “Tonbridge is a club very close to my heart and I feel I’ve still got lots to offer as the club and community continues to move forward on and off the pitch.

“It fits perfectly with home and work life and I have personal records I’d like to achieve for the club.”

Angels boss Jay Saunders said: “I’m delighted to keep hold of Joe for another season.

“He’s a proven player at this level and knows the club inside and out.

“His experience will be massive as we look to push on next season.”

Turner’s decision to stay at Tonbridge follows news of a new deal for versatile midfielder Tommie Fagg.

The former Ashford man made 33 appearances in his debut season at Longmead - 17 as a substitute - scoring twice.

Injury restricted his influence on the team but he’s a big asset, also offering options at centre-back and centre-forward.

“I don’t think supporters have seen the best of him yet,” said Saunders. “We’ve seen flashes and he is someone who I believe in.

“He’s a great lad and hopefully he can kick on with a good pre-season under his belt.”
