Tonbridge Angels want to move on quickly from big Weymouth defeat as Kent derby against Dover Athletic rearranged

Jay Saunders can’t wait for the next game after Tonbridge’s heavy home defeat at the weekend.

Angels lost 5-0 to Weymouth, who are coming good after a terrible start to the National League South season following relegation.

Defeat hurt boss Saunders and his players and hopes of getting it out of their system quickly were dashed when Tuesday night’s home game against Dover was postponed due to snow.

With neither team in FA Trophy action, the Kent derby has been rearranged for this Saturday (3pm).

“When you’ve had a defeat like we had against Weymouth, you just want to play the next game,” said Saunders.

“We were keen to get Tuesday on and get a quick turnaround but it wasn’t to be. We’d have loved it to be on but we’ll try again on Saturday. I’m glad we could get it rearranged.”

Tonbridge were 4-0 down by half-time against Weymouth as they missed the chance to move into the play-off places.

Saunders, who is in talks with Hemel over extending five-goal striker Jordan Greenidge’s loan, wants a reaction against Dover.

“I’ve watched the game back,” he said. “We probably caught Weymouth at the wrong time.

“They’re on a good run, they’ve got a new manager and they’ve invested in players.

“They drew with AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup and they won 3-1 at Worthing on Tuesday night, so they’re a good side.

“I’m not making excuses because our performance wasn’t good enough.

“Sometimes you get performances and results like that and you can’t put your finger on it.

“We never started the game - we never got going.

“They started on the front foot and we were a yard or two off it and we conceded some poor goals.

“That performance hurt me a lot but it’s happened and you either sulk or say, ‘OK, we’re still in a decent position, let’s bounce
