Tonbridge Angels boss Craig Nelson uses meet-the-manager evening with fans to announce new signings Arthur Penney and Matty Warren
Tonbridge announced a pair of new arrivals at their meet-the-manager evening.
The signings of defender Arthur Penney and midfielder Matty Warren were revealed by Angels boss Craig Nelson at Longmead on Wednesday night.
It was Tonbridge fans’ first chance to meet Nelson since he took charge at the National League South club.
And he had a nice surprise in store for them with the double addition.
Penney, 22, made 35 appearances for Chelmsford last season and before that won both the manager’s player and players’ player-of-the-year awards at Lewes, before Nelson’s time at the Dripping Pan.
“Arthur is someone I’ve admired for a while and actually tried to work with last year,” Nelson told the Angels website.
“He’s composed, reads the game brilliantly and carries himself with real maturity.
“He’s a consistent performer who brings calmness and quality to the backline, and I’m really pleased to have him with us for the season ahead.”
Penney, who came through the youth ranks at Millwall, said: “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Craig and I know people that have worked with him and speak highly of him, so I’m looking forward to working under him.”
Warren is the second Lewes player to follow Nelson to Tonbridge, after Marcus Sablier made the switch last week.
The midfielder played 40 times for the Isthmian Premier club last season, scoring five goals, and was named manager’s player and players’ player-of-the-year.
Warren has also played for Chipstead, Cray Valley, Sittingbourne, Sevenoaks and Ramsgate.
Nelson said: “Matty is a player who brings bite, drive and real energy to the midfield.
“I know exactly what I’m getting with him, someone who leaves everything out there and raises the standards around him.
“He was excellent
