Tonbridge Angels awaiting news on lease extension at Longmead as community-owned club explore possibility of private investment and ground improvements

Tonbridge Angels are expecting news on an extension to their lease at Longmead “within the next six weeks”.

The club have eight years remaining on the existing lease at their 3,200-capacity home ground.

An extension is necessary as the community-owned club explore the possibility of private investment and look to carry out stadium improvements.

“At the moment our priority is the extension of the lease and then we can explore investment into the club,” said chair Sophie Purves.

“There’s eight years left on our lease and we’re at a point where we need to extend, so we’re expecting that to be done within the next six weeks and we can look at the redevelopment of the ground, which is much-needed.

“We’ll wait and see what we receive from the local authority with the lease proposal but they’re very aware of our requirements for a lengthy lease in order to redevelop the ground and improve facilities for our supporters.”

New manager Alan Dunne takes charge of his first match on Saturday when Tonbridge visit Cray Valley in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

Dunne’s appointment was announced on Monday, following the dismissal of Craig Nelson.

Angels are 15th in National League South while the Millers, managed by ex-Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm, are 14th in the Isthmian Premier.
